Pirate Project

Description: Personal experimental project to create a game where the main character was a vehicle rather than a humanoid type player. In this case it is a pirate ship. Goal: The goal was to test multiple game systems. Building literally every gameplay and UI element from scratch. To expedite development, FAB content packs are used where necessary. For example 3D models are used due to the fact that I am not a 3D artist or animator. Tools: Unreal Engine 5.6 Contributions: - Gameplay design - UI/UX Design and Technical implementation - Narrative Design - System: Character and Narrative systems were designed to allow the building of dialog narrative and quests. - System: Moveable ship with stats, weapons that cause damage, and loss conditions. - System: Inventory (basic) to host XP and Money earned in the game. - System: Environmental gameplay tag system to allow for controlled events when cannonballs hit something other than a player.

Technology
In this project, aside from elements needed to present gameplay like 3D models, audio, 2D art, and the level design, the focused work I was trying to present here is: - Built a data driven system to add NPC characters - Leveraged the data driven system to host specific RPG style text boxes and build a branching narrative design from the ground up - Built universal UI functionality to permit KBM/Gamepad play with unique callouts and visuals. This was done with commonInput - Built gameplay elements such as Weapon and firing system, inventory, stats system, and visual reactive UI elements to go with it
